Lessons from Israel’s Idolatry

10 Moreover, brethren (fellow believers), I would not that ye should be ignorant (I do not want you to be unaware), how that all our fathers were under the cloud [in which God’s presence went before them], and all [miraculously] passed through the [Red] sea;

And were all baptized (immersed) unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

And did all eat the same spiritual meat (spiritual food);

And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ (Mashiach).

But with many of them God (Elohim; Yahuah) was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

Neither be ye (you) idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

Neither let us commit fornication (sexual intercourse before marriage), as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand (and 23,000 fell in one day) .

Neither let us tempt Christ ([that is, test Mashiach’s patience, question His purpose or exploit His goodness]), as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.

10 Neither murmur ye (Do not grumble), as some of them also murmured (grumbled), and were destroyed of the destroyer.

11 Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition (caution), upon whom the ends of the world are (have) come.

12 Wherefore let him that thinketh (thinks) he standeth (stands) take heed lest he fall.

13 There hath (has) no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God (Elohim; Yahuah) is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye (you) are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye (you) may be able to bear it.

14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry (the worship of idols).

15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye (you) what I say.

16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ (Mashiach)? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ (Mashiach)?

17 For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.

18 Behold (Observe) Israel after the flesh: are not they which (who) eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?

OLD TESTAMENT

Psalm 123
King James Version audio with speed control:-
(NOTE: To pause and to play again, press Fn + F5 on your keyboard)

Background music:-

A Song of degrees.

123 Unto thee (You) lift I up mine (my) eyes, O thou (You) that dwellest (enthroned) in the heavens.

Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the Lord (𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 / Yahuah) our God (Elohim), until that he (He) have mercy upon us.

Have mercy upon us, O Lord (𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 / Yahuah), have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt (disrespect).

Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt (disrespect) of the proud.

Psalm 124
King James Version audio with speed control:-
(NOTE: To pause and to play again, press Fn + F5 on your keyboard)

Background music:-

A Song of degrees of David.

124 If it had not been the Lord (𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 / Yahuah) who was on our side, now may Israel say;

If it had not been the Lord (𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 / Yahuah) who was on our side, when men rose up against us:

Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath (extreme anger) was kindled (flaming) against us:

Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:

Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.

Blessed be the Lord (𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 / Yahuah), who hath (has) not given us as a prey to their teeth.

Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare (trap) of the fowlers (hunters): the snare (trap) is broken, and we are escaped.

Our help is in the name of the Lord (𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 / Yahuah), who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 125
King James Version audio with speed control:-
(NOTE: To pause and to play again, press Fn + F5 on your keyboard)

Background music:-

A Song of degrees.

125 They that trust in the Lord (𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 / Yahuah) shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth (remains, stays) for ever.

As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord (𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 / Yahuah) is round about his (His) people from henceforth even for ever.

For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity (sin).

Do good, O Lord (𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 / Yahuah), unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts.

As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the Lord (𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 / Yahuah) shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity (sin): but peace shall be upon Israel.
