THE SINNER’S PRAYER

1) QUESTION: WHAT IS THE MEANING OF SALVATION?

ANSWER:-

Salvation = The deliverance / rescue from eternal punishment for sin which is provided by God’s grace to those who accept His terms of repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus.

(NOTE: repent = to turn away from evil)

2) QUESTION: WHAT IS THE MEANING TO BE A CHRISTIAN?

ANSWER:-

2.1) Being a Christian does not mean that we are in a religion. Religion cannot save our souls. We can only be saved by Jesus Christ.

2.2) Being a Christian actually means to have a relationship with our heavenly Father who is the Almighty God, obey Him and doing His will.

God’s will = God’s wish.

2.3) It is a journey on this temporary earth and living a life that is pleasing to God while waiting to be reunited with our heavenly Father in heaven.

2.4) It is not about wearing a cross pendant OR having a big cross at the entrance of our houses OR listening to gospel songs at all times.

2.5) Doing all that does not save a person’s soul from being condemned to hell.

2.6) To be a Christian means to be Christlike.

2.7) Follow Jesus, do not follow Christians. Christians are only human beings. Human beings are not perfect.

3) QUESTION: “WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED OR TO OBTAIN SALVATION?”

ANSWERS:-

3.1) Believe and accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior:-

Romans 10:9 King James Version (KJV)
That if thou shalt (you shall) confess with thy (your) mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt (shall) believe in thine (your) heart that God hath (has) raised him from the dead, thou shalt (you shall) be saved.

Romans 10:9 Romans 10:9
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

3.2) Believe that Jesus Christ (the Messiah) was sent from God the Father to save sinners so their relationship with God will be restored:-

John 3:16-18 King James Version (KJV)
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 3:16-18 John 3:16-18
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

3.3) Believe and acknowledge that Jesus Christ (the Son of God) and God (the Father) are one:-

John 10:30 King James Version (KJV)
30 I and my Father are one.

John 10:30 John 10:30
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
30 I and my Father are one. 30 I and My Father are one.

3.4) Believe that God sent the Holy Spirit to be our Comforter and Teacher after Jesus Christ had resurrected and gone back to heaven:-

John 14:25-26 King James Version (KJV)
25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit), whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 14:25-26 John 14:25-26
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

25 These things I have spoken to you while being present with you.

26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

3.5) Believe in the Holy Trinity. There is One God. The Christian Godhead as one God in three persons: –

    1. God is the Father
    2. God is the Son
    3. God is the Holy Spirit

Matthew 28:19 King James Version (KJV)
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Matthew 28:19 Matthew 28:19
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

3.6) Confess (believe, accept and acknowledge) Jesus. Never deny Him:-

Matthew 10:32-33 King James Version (KJV)
32 Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.

33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 10:32-33 Matthew 10:32-33
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

32 Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.

33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.

3.7) Believe and be baptized:-

Mark 16:16 King James Version (KJV)
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not (but he that does not believe) shall be damned (condemned [to hell]).

Mark 16:16 Mark 16:16
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

3.8) Being born again means that we stop all our sins and be a new person in Christ.

3.9) The Word of God says very clearly that if we are not born again, we cannot see the Kingdom of God (we cannot enter heaven):-

John 3:1-7 King James Version (KJV)
3 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art (You are) a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest (You do), except God be with him.

3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye (You) must be born again.

John 3:3-7 John 3:3-7
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
3 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

3 There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”

3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”

5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’

3.10) Be a transformed person (born again):-

Romans 12:2 King James Version (KJV)
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Romans 12:2 Romans 12:2
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

3.11) As believers in Christ and children of God, we are required to ABIDE (STAY, REMAIN) in God’s Word daily, not visiting (reading His Word only on certain days). Otherwise, we are not believers as stated in John 5:38.

It is very important to know what is the difference between ‘abiding in His Word’ and ‘visiting His Word’.

We must not deceive (fool) ourselves thinking that we are believers in Christ if we do not abide (stay) in His Word daily.

The Word of God clearly stated those who are not believers in Christ and will be thrown into hell:-

John 5:38 King James Version (KJV)
And ye (you) have not his word abiding (staying) in you: for whom he hath (God has) sent, him ye (Him you) believe not.

John 5:38 John 5:38
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
38 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not. 38 But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe.

John 3:18 King James Version (KJV)
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 3:18 John 3:18
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

3.12) We need to ABIDE (STAY) in Him (God, Jesus & Holy Spirit) to be able to bear the Fruit of the Spirit as a proof (evidence) that we are born again (transformed as required by God):-

John 15:4-11 King James Version (KJV)
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.

11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

John 15:4-11 John 15:4-11
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)

4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.

7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.

10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.

3.13) We MUST OBEY ALL God’s commandments & instructions, abide in Him and do God’s will (wish) as His obedient children as a PROOF TO GOD that we TRULY love Him:-

John 14:15 King James Version (KJV)
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

John 14:15 John 14:15
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.
4) QUESTION: WHAT IS THE SINNER’S PRAYER?

ANSWERS:-

4.1) Saying The Sinner’s Prayer (or sometimes this prayer is also known as ‘The Salvation Prayer’) out loud and confessing that you are accepting Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior is an act for Romans 10:9 (if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved).

4.2) Remember, by saying the Sinner’s Prayer or the Salvation Prayer below is not a ‘passport’ to salvation. Reason being, even when Jesus was crucified on the cross, one of the criminals that was hung beside Him on the day repented and acknowledged that Jesus is Lord. Jesus just gave him a simple answer. There was no time and no need for that criminal to say the Sinner’s Prayer:-

Luke 23:32-33
32 There were also two others, criminals, led with Him to be put to death. 33 And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left.

Luke 23:42-43
42 Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”
43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

4.3) In fact, the Sinner’s Prayer can be said it many different ways/sentences. What we have below is just a guide. It is just the beginning of your journey/relationship with Father God, Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

4.4) We will all need to read the entire Word of God (the Holy Bible) and study it thoroughly to understand what God wants us to do. God sees our hearts, not our actions. Sincerity is the most important thing of all. God wants to know that we want Him because we truly love and need Him, not because we want Him to do this or that for us. God is not our ATM machine or slave. We need to fear and honor Him.

5) THE SINNER’S PRAYER / THE SALVATION PRAYER:-

Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner.
I have done many things that do not please You.
I am sorry and I repent.
I will turn from my sinful ways and stop sinning.
I ask you to forgive me.
I believe that You died on the cross
and rose again on the third day to save me.
From this day onwards,
I want to live in a way that pleases you.
Jesus, please be my Lord and my Savior.
Amen.

6) THE IMPORTANCE OF READING GOD’S WORD (THE HOLY BIBLE) AND DOING THE THINGS WHAT FATHER GOD WANTS US TO DO:-

6.1) We are required to read our Bibles (Psalm 119:105) and pray (Jeremiah 29:12) everyday as believers in Christ. We need to store up God’s word in our hearts so that we do not sin against Him (Psalm 119:11):-

Psalm 119:105 King James Version (KJV)
Thy (Your) word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Psalm 119:105 Psalm 119:105
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. 105 Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.

Psalm 119:11 King James Version (KJV)
Thy (Your) word have I hid (hidden) in mine (my) heart, that I might not sin against thee (You).

Psalm 119:11 Psalm 119:11
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. 11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.

Jeremiah 29:12 King James Version (KJV)
Then shall ye (you) call upon me, and ye (you) shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto (listen to) you.

Jeremiah 29:12 Jeremiah 29:12
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.

6.2) We MUST learn to put God first and build a close relationship with God. Christianity is not a religion. It is about our personal relationship with God, Jesus & the Holy Spirit. We do that by:-

    • Reading The Word of God = is what our Father God teaches us His commandments / statues and instructions. We need to learn it thoroughly to be able to understand it well. We recommend you to start with the New Testament first. Attend Bible study groups/lessons.
    • Prayer = is the communication / relationship with our Father God. Talk to Him. He is our heavenly Father.
7) HOW TO BUILD OUR FAITH:-

Believers in Christ MUST listen to the gospel (Romans 10:17):-

8) WHAT ELSE ARE WE REQUIRED TO DO?

8.1) Repent sincerely daily (2 Corinthians 7:10). Pray and ask God to forgive us our sins daily. Pray to have a change of thinking, to stop sinning and for a change of life (to be born again):-

2 Corinthians 7:10 King James Version (KJV)
10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

2 Corinthians 7:10 2 Corinthians 7:10
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. 10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.

8.2) Be baptized in the water (Acts 2:38 , Act 22:16). Talk to any senior Christian to prepare you for a water baptism:-

Acts 2:38 King James Version (KJV)
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission (forgiveness) of sins, and ye (you) shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit).

Acts 2:38 Acts 2:38
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 22:16 King James Version (KJV)
16 And now why tarriest thou (why are waiting)? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Acts 22:16 Acts 22:16
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. 16 And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’

8.3) Learn to bond with other brothers and sisters in Christ and grow spiritually as a family (John 13:34-35)(Colossians 3:12-17) This is a commandment. It is not something that we do it only when we have the mood to do so:-

John 13:34-35 King James Version (KJV)
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

John 13:34-35 John 13:34-35
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

Colossians 3:12-17 King James Version (KJV)
12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Colossians 3:12-17 Colossians 3:12-17
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;

13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.

14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Hebrews 10:25 King James Version (KJV)
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Hebrews 10:25 Hebrews 10:25
King James Version (KJV) New King James Version (NKJV)
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

8.4) Be baptized in the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38). Ask any senior Christian to help you to be baptized in the Holy Spirit:-
