THE SINNER’S PRAYER

QUESTION #1: WHAT IS THE MEANING OF SALVATION AND TO BE A CHRISTIAN?

ANSWER #1)

  • Salvation = The deliverance / rescue from eternal punishment for sin, provided by God’s grace, to those who accept His terms of repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus.
  • Being a Christian does not mean that we are in a religion. Being a Christian actually means to have a relationship with our heavenly Father who is the Almighty God, obey Him and doing His will. God’s will = God’s wish. It is a journey on this temporary earth and living a life that is pleasing to God while waiting to be reunited with our heavenly Father in heaven. It is not about wearing a cross pendant, having a big cross at the entrance of our houses or on our main entrance door. Doing all that does not mean that a person is a Christian. To be a Christian also means being Christ like. Follow Jesus, do not follow Christians. Christians are only human beings. Human beings are not perfect.
QUESTION #2: “WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED OR TO OBTAIN SALVATION?”

ANSWER #2)

  • Believe and accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior:-

    Romans 10:9
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

  • Believe that He was sent from God the Father to redeem sinners so their relationship with God will be restored.:-

John 3:16-18
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in Him (Jesus Christ) is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

  • Believe and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He and God the Father are one.:-

John 10:30I and the Father are one.

Matthew 10:32-33
32 So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, 33 but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.

  • Be baptized, repent from all sins (sin no more). Be transformed, be a born again Christian. Being born again means that we stop all our sins and be a new person in Christ. The Word of God says very clearly that if we are not born again, we cannot see the Kingdom of God:-

Mark 16:16
16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

John 3:3-7
3 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” 3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again’

Romans 12:2
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

John 15:4-11
4 “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. 9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”

  • Obey God’s commandment & statutes, abide in Him and last but not least, do God’s will:-

John 14:15 If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

QUESTION #3: THE SINNER’S PRAYER / THE SALVATION’S PRAYER & WHAT DO I DO NEXT?

ANSWER #3:-

Saying The Sinner’s Prayer (or sometimes this prayer is also known as ‘The Salvation Prayer’) out loud and confessing that you are accepting Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior is an act for Romans 10:9 (if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved).

Remember, by saying the Sinner’s Prayer or the Salvation Prayer below is not a ‘passport’ to salvation. Reason being, even when Jesus was crucified on the cross, one of the criminals that was hung beside Him on the day repented and acknowledged that Jesus is Lord. Jesus just gave him a simple answer. There was no time and no need for that criminal to say the Sinner’s Prayer:-

Luke 23:32-33
32 There were also two others, criminals, led with Him to be put to death. 33 And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left.

Luke 23:42-43
42 Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”
43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

In fact, the Sinner’s Prayer can be said it many different ways/sentences. What we have below is just a guide. It is just the beginning of your journey/relationship with Father God, Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

We will all need to read the entire Word of God (the Holy Bible) and study it thoroughly to understand what God wants us to do. God sees our hearts, not our actions. Sincerity is the most important thing of all. God wants to know that we want Him because we truly love and need Him, not because we want Him to do this or that for us. God is not our ATM machine or slave. We need to fear and honor Him.

THE SINNER’S PRAYER / THE SALVATION PRAYER:-

Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner.
I have done many things that do not please You.
I am sorry and I repent.
I will turn from my sinful ways and stop sinning.
I ask you to forgive me.
I believe that You died on the cross
and rose again on the third day to save me.
From this day onwards,
I want to live in a way that pleases you.
Jesus, please be my Lord and my Savior.
Amen.

THE IMPORTANCE OF READING GOD’S WORD (THE HOLY BIBLE) AND DOING THE THINGS WHAT FATHER GOD WANTS US TO DO:-

We are required to read your Bible (Psalm 119:105), pray (Jeremiah 29:12) everyday and as often as we can as a believer in Christ. We need to store up God’s word in our hearts so that we do not sin against Him (Psalm 119:11):-

Psalm 119:105
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Psalm 119:11
11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

Jeremiah 29:12
12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.

We MUST learn to put God first and build a close relationship with God. Christianity is not a religion. It is about our personal relationship with God, Jesus & the Holy Spirit.

  • The Word of God = is what our Father God teaches us His commandments / statues and instructions. We need to learn it thoroughly to be able to understand it well. We recommend you to start with the New Testament first. Attend Bible study groups/lessons.
  • Prayer = is the communication / relationship with our Father God. Search for prayer guides on YouTube.

Believers in Christ MUST listen to the gospel (Romans 10:17) as often as we can:-

Repent daily (2 Corinthians 7:10). Pray and ask God to forgive us our sins daily. Pray to have a change of thinking, to stop sinning and a change of life:-

2 Corinthians 7:10
10 For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.

Be baptized in the water (Acts 2:38 , Act 22:16). Talk to any senior Christian to prepare you for a water baptism:-

Acts 2:38
38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 22:16
16 And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.’

Be baptized in the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38). Ask any senior Christian to help you to be baptized in the Holy Spirit:-

Acts 2:38
38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Learn to bond with other brothers and sisters in Christ and grow spiritually as a family (John 13:34-35)(Colossians 3:12-17) This is a commandment. It is not something that we do it only when we have the mood to do so:-

John 13:34-35
34 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Colossians 3:12-17
12 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Last but not least, do not be shy to ask anything if you have any questions so you can grow.
