DEMONIC POSSESSION

1) CAN A CHRISTIAN BE DEMON POSSESSED / DEMONIZED?

1.1) This is a very important topic because many have underestimated what Satan / Devil and His followers (demons) can do.

1.2) Christians = believers in Christ.

TYPE 1: Spirit filled
TYPE 2: Not Spirit filled

We still address both types as Christians.

1.3) We have seen deliverance (casting out of demons) had been done on Christians in the churches. We have seen that some of them are even those serving in the churches or as ministers.

1.4) If Christians let their guard down, the door can be opened for Satan / Devil / his demons to enter.

1.5) We need to keep in mind that we are all not living under the same roof and keeping watch on everyone 24 hours a day. It is impossible for us human beings to know who are the ones living righteously and who are not. We do not know who are the Christians who have opened themselves to Satan and how have they opened that door.

1.6) Let us study this topic carefully to learn the preventive measures.

2) QUESTION: Why did the Word of God warned us about our enemy (Satan / Devil)?

ANSWER: It is because Satan / Devil is constantly seeking to devour.

John 10:10 King James Version (KJV)
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

1 Peter 5:8 King James Version (KJV)
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

(NOTE: sober = Not affected by alcohol; not drunk)

3) QUESTION: What is a ‘demon‘?

ANSWER: Demons = fallen angels (the one third of angels who chose to follow Lucifer / Satan / Devil / Serpent / Dragon / Father of Lies / Beast)

Revelation 12:4 King James Version (KJV)
And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

4) QUESTION: What is the meaning of ‘demon possessed’?

ANSWER: Demon possessed / Demonic possession = someone is partially or totally controlled by an evil spirit, either knowingly or unknowingly.

4.1) Demonic possession takes place when the spiritual door has been opened to the evil spirit (demons) through the sins committed.

4.2) Most of the time the demons will hide quietly in the person and it will manifest / reveal itself only when it feels threatened by God / Lord Jesus / Holy Spirit.

5) DEMONIC POSSESSION EXPLAINED

Satan / Devil / his demons are in spirit form. They need to possess human beings to make them carry out the act of sins.

(NOTE: possess = to own, to have under one’s power or control)

6) EVIDENCE OF SINFUL ACTIVITIES IN THE CHURCH

6.1) Paul wrote a letter to the church in Corinth to address the believers’ sins, divisions and immaturity. See below:-

1 Corinthians 5:1-13 King James Version (KJV)
1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife.

2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.

3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,

4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

(NOTE: Metaphor meaning: A little sin / hypocrisy / false teaching spoils or can work its way to a total destruction)

7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

(NOTE: Metaphor meaning: We need to get rid of old worldly sins (to sincerely repent) because Christ has washed away our sins with His blood which He sacrificed for us. We are to be born again believers).

8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice (hatred, bitterness, vengefulness) and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

9 I wrote unto you in an epistle (letter) not to company with fornicators:

(NOTE: fornicate = to have sex before marriage)

10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.

11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?

13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

6.2) So be very clear that demonic possessions do exist among Christians in the church itself!

6.3) Do understand that the Holy Spirit will never lead anyone to commit any sin. Satan or his demons does!

6.4) No Spirit filled Christians will commit any sin unless there is an evil spirit (demon) controlling them to do so. Sometimes it can be more than one demon controlling a person:-

Mark 5:9 King James Version (KJV)
And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

6) EVIL SPIRIT ENTERED KING SAUL

King Saul was first chosen and anointed by God Himself. The Spirit of the Lord departed him when he was disobedient to God. Later, he became jealous of David and he wanted to kill David. Below are some scripture references on what happened to King Saul:-

1 Samuel 16:14-15 King James Version (KJV)
14 But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him.

15 And Saul’s servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.

and….

1 Samuel 18:5-10 King James Version (KJV)
5 And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.

6 And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.

7 And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.

8 And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?

9 And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.

10 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul’s hand.

7) SATAN ENTERED JUDAS ISCARIOT

7.1) Satan also entered Judas. Judas was one of Jesus’ disciples:-

Luke 22:3-6 King James Version (KJV)
3 Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

4 And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.

5 And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.

6 And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.

and….

John 13:24-28 King James Version (KJV)
24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.

25 He then lying on Jesus’ breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?

26 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.

27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.

28 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.

7.2) So again, this is another proof that demons OR Satan himself can possess anyone.

8) ANOTHER WARNING ABOUT ONE OF SATAN’S TECHNIQUES

Satan uses ‘Christians’ to deceive Christians:-

13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

9) HOW TO PREVENT FROM GETTING DEMON POSSESSED?

9.1) Abide (Stay, [not visiting which means reading random verses]) in the Word of God:-

John 15:7-8 King James Version (KJV)
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8 Herein (In this document or book) is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

9.2) Read the Word of God daily, thoroughly and systematically (to ensure that the entire Word of God is read after 1/2/3 years) to build your faith:-

Romans 10:17 King James Version (KJV)
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

9.3) Obey ALL God’s commandments and instructions:-

1 Samuel 15:22 King James Version (KJV)
And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

9.4) Be filled with the Holy Spirit and bear the Fruit of the Spirit. (Click here to learn more about the Fruit of the Spirit):-

Galatians 5:22-23 King James Version (KJV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

9.5) Submit to God and resist the devil:-

James 4:7 King James Version (KJV)
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

9.6) Wear the WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD.

Click here to learn more about the WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD:-

Ephesians 6:10-20 King James Version (KJV)
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

10) SUMMARY

10.1) A Christian without the Holy Spirit is like an empty vessels. This makes them vulnerable to be possessed by evil spirits / demons.

10.2) Remember, Satan does not choose to only demonized the non-believers on the streets. He can also demonized believers in the church as what we have read earlier.

10.3) So do not think that there are no demons in the churches. They could be in some of the Christians that you know personally.

10.4) The Word of God had taught us to be wise and test every spirit.

10.5) This way, we will know who are filled with the Holy Spirit and who are not:-

Matthew 7:16-23 King James Version (KJV)
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

11) CONCLUSION

11.1) A Christian who truly have God, Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit in them CANNOT be possessed by demons. They are the ones who know the importance of wearing the WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD at all times.

11.2) The Fruit of the Spirit a spiritual fruit consisting the 9 characteristics that true believers in Christ must have or bear as a proof of being Spirit filled and being born again:-

Galatians 5:22-23 King James Version (KJV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

IMPORTANT NOTE: ANYTHING OPPOSITE OF THE 9 CHARACTERTICS WHICH MAKES THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT IS DEFINITELY NOT FROM GOD.
