Paul Preaches in Athens

16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly (fully) given to idolatry.

(NOTE: idolatry = the worship of false gods / the worship of a physical object as a god / very great admiration or respect for someone or something, often too great)

17 Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.

18 Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods (“He seems to be a proclaimer of strange deities”): because he preached unto them Jesus (Yahushua / Yeshua), and the resurrection.

(NOTE: resurrection = The act of restoring a dead person, for example, to life)

19 And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine (teaching), whereof thou speakest, is (which you are proclaiming)?

20 For thou bringest (you bring) certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.

21 (For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)

22 Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye (You) men of Athens, I perceive (understand) that in all things ye (you) are too superstitious.

(NOTE: superstitious = a tendency to believe in the supernatural or in luck)

23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye (you) ignorantly (naively) worship, him declare I unto you.

24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he (He) is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not (does not live) in temples made with hands;

25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things (because it is He who gives to all [people] life and breath and all things);

26 And hath (has) made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell (live) on all the face of the earth, and hath (has) determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply (perhaps) they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.

30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth (commands) all men every where to repent:

31 Because he hath (He has) appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath (He has) ordained; whereof he hath (He has) given assurance unto all men, in that he hath (He has) raised him (Him) from the dead.

32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee (you) again of this matter.

33 So Paul departed from among them.

34 Howbeit (However,) certain men clave unto him (joined him), and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

OLD TESTAMENT

Psalm 4
King James Version audio with speed control:-
(NOTE: To pause and to play again, press Fn + F5 on your keyboard)

Background music:-

To the Chief Musician on Neginoth. A Psalm of David

4 Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast (You have) enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.

O ye (you) sons of men, how long will ye (you) turn my glory into shame? how long will ye (you) love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.

(NOTESelah = Suspension (of music, i.e. pause [H5542 – סֶלָה]).

But know that the Lord hath (has) set apart him that is godly for himself: the Lord will hear when I call unto him.

Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.

Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord.

There be many that say, Who will shew (show) us any good? Lord, lift thou (You lift) up the light of thy (Your) countenance upon us.

Thou hast (You have) put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou (You), Lord, only makest (make) me dwell (live) in safety.

Psalm 5
King James Version audio with speed control:-

Background music:-

To the Chief Musician upon Nehiloth. A Psalm of David

5 Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my meditation.

Hearken unto (Listen to) the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee (You) will I pray.

My voice shalt thou hear (You shall hear) in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee (You), and will look up.

For thou art (You are) not a God that hath (has) pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell (live, stay) with thee (You).

The foolish shall not stand in thy (Your) sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity (You hate all who do evil).

Thou shalt (You shall) destroy them that speak leasing: the Lord will abhor (hate) the bloody and deceitful man.

But as for me, I will come into thy (Your) house in the multitude of thy (Your) mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy (Your) holy temple.

Lead me, O Lord, in thy (Your) righteousness because of mine (my) enemies; make thy (Your) way straight before my face.

For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre (tomb); they flatter with their tongue.

10 Destroy thou them (You destroy them), O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee (You).

11 But let all those that put their trust in thee (You) rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest (You defend) them: let them also that love thy (Your) name be joyful in thee (You).

12 For thou (You), Lord, wilt (will) bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield (You surround him with favor as with a shield).

Psalm 6
King James Version audio with speed control:-
(NOTE: To pause and to play again, press Fn + F5 on your keyboard)

Background music:-

To the Chief Musician on Neginoth upon Sheminith. A Psalm of David

6 O Lord, rebuke me not in thine (Your) anger, neither chasten (rebuke) me in thy (Your) hot displeasure.

Have mercy upon me, O Lord; for I am weak: O Lord, heal me; for my bones are vexed (dismayed, anguished).

My soul is also sore vexed (greatly dismayed, anguished): but thou (You), O Lord, how long?

Return, O Lord, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy (Your) mercies’ sake.

For in death there is no remembrance of thee (You): in the grave who shall give thee (You) thanks?

I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.

Mine (My) eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth (grew) old because of all mine (my) enemies.

Depart from me, all ye (you) workers of iniquity (sin); for the Lord hath (has) heard the voice of my weeping.

The Lord hath (has) heard my supplication; the Lord will receive my prayer.

10 Let all mine (my) enemies be ashamed and sore vexed (greatly horrified): let them return and be ashamed suddenly.

THE ORGINAL HEBREW NAME OF THE MESSIAH

The video below is done by a Jewish Hebrew language lady teacher. Her name is Ayelet. She is born and raised in Israel. Hebrew is her native language. In this video, we will be able to learn the correct pronunciation of the Messiah’s original name in Hebrew:-

VIDEO: Jesus – Yeshua in Hebrew – Hebrew Word of the Day (59 secs) – by The WORD in HEBREW

In Hebrew: מָשִׁיחַ (H4899) = Mashiach = Messiah (English) / Anointed One

In Hebrew (full name): יְהוֹשׁוּעַ הַמָשִׁיחַ = Yahushua Ha-Mashiach = Yahushua The Anointed One.

NOTES:-

1. Yeshua יֵשׁוּעַ (H3442 = He will save) is a shortened form of Yehoshooah / Yahushua יְהוֹשׁוּעַ (H3091 = God / Yah saves).

2. Yehoshooah as spelt in this manner depicts Joshua יְהוֹשׁוּעַ (H3091 = yeh-ho-SHOO-ah) adds Hosea, יְהוֹשׁוּעַ (H1954 = deliver / salvation). Therefore, Yehoshooah / Yahushua means God is Salvation God / Yah saves.

3. Yahushua as spelt in this manner depicts that the Messiah came in the name of His Father, Yah יה / יָהּ (H3050) as in John 5:43).

4. Yahusha as spelt in this manner depicts that the Messiah came in the name of His Father, Yah יה / יָהּ (H3050) adds Yasha יָשַׁע (H3467 )

In Greek = Christos

In English = Christ =  Messiah = Anointed One
