WHAT IS THE EIGHT BEATITUDES IN THE BIBLE?
The Eight Beatitudes of Jesus (original Hebrew name: Yeshua) are eight instructions (guidelines) from Jesus (Yeshua) for believers to be perfect believers. They are found in the Bible from the Gospel of Matthew 5:3-11 (Date of reading: Jan 5).
These are words of wise guidelines, giving us comfort and strength as Jesus explained the blessings promised by our heavenly Father if we practice the Word of God:-
The Greek word ‘blessed’ means happy or blissful.
THE EIGHT BEATITUDES IN THE BIBLE EXPLAINED
Let us look into the meaning of THE EIGHT BEATITUDES line by line:-
BEATITUDE #1:-
v3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
= THOSE WHO REALIZE HOW MUCH THEY NEED GOD TO BE RICH IN SPIRIT WILL EXPERIENCE THE BENEFITS OF GOD.
BEATITUDE #2:-
v4 Blessed are they that mourn (grieve): for they shall be comforted.
= THOSE WHO HAD BEEN AFFLICTED / PERSECUTED / OPPRESSED (as God’s obedient children) AND HAVE CONCERN FOR OTHERS WILL BE COMFORTED.
BEATITUDE #3:-
v5 Blessed are the meek (humble / gentle): for they shall inherit the earth.
= THOSE WHO ARE HUMBLE / GENTLE (NOT PROUD) WILL BE BLESSED WITH LAND ON EARTH.
BEATITUDE #4:-
v6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
= THOSE WHO SEEK RIGHTEOUSNESS (as God’s obedient children) WILL BE FILLED SPIRITUALLY.
BEATITUDE #5:-
v7 Blessed are the merciful (compassionate): for they shall obtain mercy.
= THOSE WHO ARE COMPASSIONATE TOWARD OTHERS WILL BE BLESSED AND GOD WILL BE COMPASSIONATE TOWARD THEM AS WELL.
BEATITUDE #6:-
v8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
= THOSE WHO ARE RIGHTEOUS IN THEIR HEARTS (as God’s obedient children) WILL BE BLESSED AND THEY WILL BE ABLE TO SEE GOD.
BEATITUDE #7:-
v9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
= THOSE WHO BRING PEACE TO ALL ARE QUALIFIED TO BE CALLED AS CHILDREN OF GOD.
BEATITUDE #8:-
v10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
and…
v11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
= THOSE WHO ARE AFFLICTED / TORTURED / SCORNED AT / SCOLDED / ACCUSED FALSELY FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS AND GOD’S NAME SAKE WILL BE BLESSED AND EXPERIENCE THE BENEFITS OF GOD.
Every sentence ended with a reward! Wow, how blessed indeed are those who obey all the eight beatitudes! As children of God, we are sheltered by God’s promises & favor! As true children of God, we enjoy inner peace! We are spiritually secured and nourished by God’s goodness!
Prayer:-
# Abba Father, we want thank You for Your most valuable lesson from today’s reading. We CHOOSE to obey THE EIGHT BEATITUDES wise guidelines that was taught by Your beloved son, Yeshua. We humble ourselves before You Yahuah, our true living and Almighty Creator. Please grant us wisdom, understanding and knowledge when we read Your Word daily. Thank you Yeshua for redeeming our sins. Thank you Holy Spirit for being our teacher.
